a heart of roses

new painting on Etsy
5" x 7"

“If there ever comes a day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart. I'll stay there forever.”
A.A. Milne

“We'll be Friends Forever, won't we, Pooh?' asked Piglet.
Even longer,' Pooh answered.”
A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

Remembering my dearest friend Janet
who left me a year ago.
Forever in my heart.

a few random things

How cute is that?
Some sweet friends sent me a little surprise
package with these adorable napkins.
So true, especially the hair and except for the dog.
I would need a little chat or deux.

...and speaking of cats

 Here are Buster and Jack

bedecked in antlers..and not too happy about it!

Happy First Day of Winter!

I'm still putting ornaments on the tree, baking yet to do
and some cleaning.  I'll get there!

Oh, my!
Probably one of the most visually beautiful movies ever!
I enjoyed the book and was just captivated by the film.

new painting

I'm using this painting for my Christmas cards this year.
There are prints available in my Etsy shop.

I also finished this commission:

Now I need to decorate my house for Christmas!

Thanks for the good advice on my blog problem.
I'm actually liking the new book club blog.
It just looks a little bare compared to the old one.
Once we read a few more books, it will look better.

I did go into my Picassa albums ( as suggested by Judy).
I had over 100 duplicates!  That was when I first started the blog
and didn't know what I was doing!
I'm also reducing the size of the pictures ( as suggested by Val).

Question

A quick question to all fellow bloggers:
Blogger says I am out of picture storage (I have 2 blogs)
and now wants to charge me a monthly fee.
Do you pay for your blog or do you know of other alternatives?
My second blog is for my book club.

kittens!

We discovered two kittens under our hedges.
These babies went through the hurricane last week
and the snowstorm last night!

Oh, they are sweet!  They look about 5 weeks old.
Beautiful fur & chubby little bodies.
One of them hissed at me but the one above was so calm.
We took them inside and left a humane trap to catch the mother cat.

Since we have two male cats in the house, there was no way to keep them.
The mother has not returned and we will keep checking for her.

The animal shelter took the kittens and if the mom returns,
we'll reunite her with her babies.

I solved my paint brush problem

I have tried all sorts of methods for keeping my brushes at hand.

Finally, I came up with this solution for only $2.77.
I bought a bucket grid in the paint section of Home Depot.

I already had the Lucite  silverware caddy.  I removed the caddy handle,
filled it with rice, adjusted the metal ends of the grid, and
voilĂ

I have a great brush caddy!
Do I need all those brushes, you ask?
No......
It's very easy to amass brushes, especially when you first begin to paint.
You think a better or at least a different brush will make you paint better.
Sometimes it does.

...and, like most artists, I like to buy art supplies.
I'll show you my paint stash someday.
Same theory: new color = better painting

I like Daniel Smith's Platinum Series brushes right now.
My most favorite brush is a free one from Cheap Joe's.
I reach for that one every time but now the point is gone.
Think I have room for a new one?!

daisy vase

I love this one...so much that I'm keeping the original for my house.
The print is available on Etsy.
8" x 10"

That's my favorite vase, a vintage store treasure, with a bouquet
I picked quickly one morning in my garden.
It just makes me smile.

Hotel Baudy..our walk continues...finally!

Remember the walk we started (over a month ago!) ?
We're walking to Giverny from our charming bed & breakfast.
So sorry about the delay, but at least we're rested & ready to move on!

Here's a lovely old place called Hotel Baudy.

The Impressionists artists, many of them American, came to stay at the
hotel and paint the beautiful rural French landscape in the late 1880's.
It was nicknamed
"The American Artists' Hotel".

The dining room where Paul Cezanne and Mary Cassatt had a very heated argument.
Cezanne stormed out of the hotel and sent for his things later on.
(We had a very peaceful meal on a drizzly evening... no one stormed out.)

Look at the wisteria!  We timed this trip hoping to see wisteria,
not disappointed at all!

Let's walk out to the court yard.
Imagine the artists passing through with their easels, canvases and paints.

A spot for them to sit or to pose their models.

 Richard E. Miller 1910

They would find irises to paint

 and luscious peonies

and quiet paths to explore.

Aren't you thrilled to find the studio well preserved?
I was!
Monet, Rodin & Sisley also painted here.

My daughter took this beautiful photo.

Over time, the garden has invaded the studio.

Back outside we're greeted by purple pansies

Are you as inspired as I am?

Our walk continues..........

Just listened to this one

I really like reading Anne Tyler.

The first sentence of this book:
"The strangest thing about my wife's return from the dead
is how other people reacted."

Anne Tyler's books, this one included, always feel like
a visit to a familiar place.  I know she'll make me smile
with quirky characters & quirky humor.  I know I'll
comfortably read it (or listen to it) to the end and be glad I did.
